Moonlight and MagnoliasRED

by John Logan

Directed by John Sipes

CAROUSEL THEATRE

Red takes you into the mind of abstract expressionist Mark Rothko and chronicles his two-year struggle to complete the largest and most lucrative commission in the history of modern art – a set of dark red murals for Manhattan’s exclusive Four Seasons restaurant.

As Rothko’s young assistant gains the confidence to challenge him, Rothko faces the possibility that his crowning achievement as an artist might also be his artistic undoing.

Set during the changing cultural landscape of the early 1960s, John Logan’s Tony Award-winning play is a snapshot of a brilliant artist at the height of his fame. Red is hailed as “intense and exciting” by The New York Times.

Appropriate for high school and up.
